I've been writing some papers for my Asian-American history class this afternoon before I start my session, and I came across this website:
http://www.kqed.org/w/pacificlink/history/angelisland/china.html
I couldn't blame any of you for not taking the time to check out that link but I just thought it was interesting.
I felt really ignorant as a human being reading through this website and others about how little I knew about Angel Island. Growing up on several occasions I was taught about the trials and tribulations that so many European immigrants faced on Ellis Island, but when you look at what many Chinese went through on the West Coast their experience was even worse.
It's kind of sad in this day and age to see more examples of racism in the American Education system. You'd think at least in Seattle we'd have been taught about this, considering the large Asian population here. I mean, it's great I'm learning about it now in college but this strikes me as something I should've learned about in high school.
Anyways, just a random thought. Going back to my homework now.
